IDG Goal: Goal 2 – Peace through Dialogue
Language shapes culture, identity, and community, and yet the norms embedded in the words we use daily are rarely examined or challenged. This interfaith and intercultural dialogue panel brought together over 20 participants from more than 42 registrations, representing a gender-balanced audience spanning at least seven faith traditions, including Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh, Secular, and Buddhist, alongside an unexpected but welcome group working to preserve the Esperanto language. Co-organised by Tahil Sharma, Hira Aftab, and Emina, and supported by Our World Too and Youth for Peace, the panel explored how language holds both positive and harmful power, how mother tongues connect us to identity and community, and how religious and spiritual traditions can equip us to recognise and resist hate speech. A recording of the session was made available for follow-up dialogue, ensuring the conversation extended well beyond the event itself.
