This poetry session was created in order to give a platform for people to share their experiences in spoken word form to others. This is also meant to create a space for people to express themselves in their native languages. The conversations that came out was quite interesting, ranging from race, gender, religion, sexuality, coexistence, South Africa and language. It was not well attended as expected because of the timing of examinations. However, those present represented different races, religions, languages etc. This will be an ongoing event.
Expected Outcomes
- Create a space for poetry and spoken word artistry;
- Create a safe space for discussion regarding themes that come
out; - Minority and foreign languages to be expressed through story or
poetry.
Main Aims
“this gathering is for the writers, the spoken words artists, the poets. a gathering to give voice to your writing. a gathering to share the words that have created you, destroyed you made you feel uncomfortable. a gathering to reclaim your words, destroy your words, come to terms with them. a gathering to break your words, put them in a glass bottle or hide them under your tongue. between texts and tongues. connect. so. bring your endless words. partition your thoughts. connect texts and tongues. all tongues welcomed.”
