The project was implemented at Darul Sukun in Karachi, a shelter home supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who often lack access to broader social interaction and inclusion. Recognizing the limited opportunities for engagement beyond their immediate environment, the initiative aimed to create a safe and supportive space for dialogue between the children and their caretakers, fostering greater interaction, understanding, and confidence.
Through culturally inclusive activities, participants were introduced to diverse faiths and traditions, encouraging openness and shared experiences. The responses from participants reflected a strong sense of unity and joy, with many expressing how they celebrate occasions such as Eid, Christmas, and Diwali together, highlighting an environment of acceptance and shared belonging. The engagement also revealed creative talents among the children, particularly in arts and crafts, alongside a desire for greater opportunities to showcase their abilities.
The project demonstrated the potential of inclusive dialogue and community engagement in bridging differences and promoting empathy. Plans are in place to expand the initiative through structured art sessions following classroom renovations, further supporting creative expression and continued interaction. Overall, the project underscored how compassion and shared experiences can transcend differences and contribute to a more inclusive and peaceful community.
