IDG Goal: Goal 6 – Access to Interfaith Education and Religious Literacy
In Poland, young people largely lacked understanding of migration and the experiences of refugees, a gap made all the more striking given Poland’s own rich history of displacement. To challenge this, an educational workshop series was delivered across several school classes over the course of a week, ultimately reaching over 200 students aged 16 to 19, predominantly Catholic and 60% female. Because the school was placed under quarantine at the last minute, the planned interactive sessions had to be adapted into an online presentation format with a Q&A, covering themes of tolerance, stereotypes, and the shared experiences of Polish people and migrants alike. With Hira Aftab from Our World Too joining as a guest speaker in two sessions, many students had their first opportunity to interact with a hijabi and engage directly with someone from a migration background, an experience that challenged media-driven stereotypes and opened conversations that rarely happen in the classroom.
