Description

IDG Goal: Goal 1 – Strong Interfaith Cooperation

Despite being one of the most religiously diverse countries in the world, South Africa continues to experience social fragmentation along faith lines, with communities often living side by side without truly connecting. To begin bridging this gap, an intimate interfaith gathering was held, bringing together 8 participants aged 22 to 35, 3 men and 5 women, representing a remarkably wide spectrum of belief, including Christianity, Islam, African Spirituality, Scientology, and a belief in Ascended Masters. The conversation centred on how global instability, violence, polarisation, and economic uncertainty challenge faith in different ways, and in doing so, participants discovered that despite their different traditions, they were all grappling with the same uncertainties. This common ground created an atmosphere of genuine connection, with several participants expressing a desire for the conversations to become a regular occurrence. For the broader community, the greatest benefit was the creation of a safe, judgment-free space that shattered stereotypes and fostered mutual understanding, laying the foundation for what could grow into a meaningful and lasting interfaith community.
