Description

IDG Goal: Goal 6 – Access to Interfaith Education and Religious Literacy

Tribal and religious tensions, bullying, post-school violence, and a lack of cross-cultural religious literacy in the school curriculum have created deep divides among young people in Namibia. To tackle these issues head-on, a Cultural Diplomacy Seminar Workshop was held in Windhoek, bringing together 50 participants including secondary and university students, teachers, youth leaders, a lawyer, and a human rights activist, facilitated by a panel of three male and two female speakers. Through the workshop, learners came to understand the principles of cultural diplomacy, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence, with many going further to make personal peace pledges. School hubs and student-led clubs were also established as lasting structures to address community issues beyond the event itself. The overall benefit to the local community was significant, young people were equipped with practical peace-building tools to bridge societal divides, contribute to safer schools and families, and launch student-led food garden initiatives aimed at tackling hunger and building a more sustainable future.
