This project was held because there were a lot of interfaith problems in Indonesia, especially in Medan. A lot of people kept their prejudices toward other people who had different religions. Thus, young people in Medan needed to start interfaith dialogue to diminish prejudice and to live peacefully.
Main aims
To introduce interfaith dialogue to young people in Medan. In the next period, they can multiply by creating more interfaith dialogues. Then, Medan will be the model of a tolerant city in Indonesia.
project summary
This project is in the form of a dialogue between Christian and Muslim boys and girls. I created the module to discuss a certain topic. The topic was about no prejudices and life in harmony. I was the only facilitator and represented ACWAY and invited some participants who were divided into two sessions. This project was held on Monday, 22nd May 2017 in Medan, North Sumatera Province, Indonesia. The dialogue started with making mutual understanding about prejudice, peace, and harmony, then the participants made promises not to prejudice and build conflict in coexistence, and lastly, the participants wrote a mini essay to describe what they had already learned from the session, to whom they would share this experience, and what they would do in the future.
project evaluation
- I saw enthusiasm in all participants, so I believe that interfaith dialogue will be the best way in Medan to decrease the number of intolerances. Furthermore, I need partners and a budget to create the bigger event.
- I felt my module worked during the dialogue. Then, I need to improve the module with ACWAY members. In the future, ACWAY will have the same module to spread all over the world.
