Eligibility

What are the eligibility criteria to apply for the ACWAY Programme?

To be eligible for the ACWAY Programme you must:

  1. Be aged between 18-35 (on 1st January 2015)
  2. Self-define as being a follower/believer of one of the following religions:
    1. Buddhism
    2. Christianity
    3. Hinduism
    4. Islam
    5. Judaism
    6. Any other religion not mentioned above
  3. Have a desire for promoting religious and cultural harmony
  4. Have experience in community activism and/or interreligious related activities
  5. Have an evidenced commitment to effecting positive change. This commitment can come in many forms; ranging from a high level of involvement in community initiatives to social entrepreneurship or from leading responsible business practices to public service.
  6. Possess leadership ability
  7. Have the ability to generate and articulate impactful ideas
  8. Have the skills and ability to work as part of a team with people from different backgrounds and religions
  9. Demonstrate good command of the English language. All elements of the programme will be conducted in English)
  10. Be prepared to travel abroad
  11. Be prepared to commit time to the project. This includes attending the training courses, conferences, delivering campaigns and local community activities). This will span over 12 months in your spare time taking into account your study and/or work commitments.
  12. Be happy to be included in photos and filming that could be used in social media as well as TV and print media

How To Apply

When is the deadline for applications/nominations?

The deadline for applications/nominations for the A Common Word Among the Youth programme is Wednesday 10th June 2015, at 11:59pm (UTC+1).

Are places issued on a first come, first served basis?

All successful candidates are informed of the decision on the announcement date (10th July 2015)

Have you received my application yet?

Upon clicking submit on your application, you will receive a confirmation page. If you haven’t received it, check your junk mail. If you are still unsuccessful at finding the email, contact us at (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)

Can you give me any tips on what to say in the application?

We cannot give you individual advice on this. Please read the Selection Criteria and try and match your skills and experience to this.

How will I find out if my application has been successful?

You will receive an email on the email address that you supply to us. If you don’t hear from us within 48 hours of the announcement date (July 10th), and there is no other update on social media or the website, please contact us.

Can you please tell me why my application was unsuccessful?

We cannot give individual feedback on applications.

Do I need a reference to support my application?

Yes, the application form asks you to provide two character references. One of the two references should be professional/academic. This can be a manager, a lecturer or a member of school staff who knows you well enough to write a character reference.

Programme Costs

What is covered by ACWAY?

The following costs are all covered by ACWAY:

  • Flights
  • Visa
  • Accommodation
  • Food
  • Airport transfers (as long as you arrive/depart on the specified dates)
  • Course material
  • Activities/visits

What do I have to pay for?

  • Travel to domestic airport
  • Vaccinations
  • Travel Insurance
  • Any period of stay outside specified dates

How much should I budget for this trip?

Depending on how much souvenir shopping you plan to do, we would suggest around $150-$300 spending money. However, please note that there will be only a small amount of free time due to the intensive nature of itinerary.

Before Departure

Will I get to meet other students before I travel?

Given the international nature of this programme, this will not be possible. On the closed Facebook group, you can also get in touch with other students attending the ACWAY Programme on the same dates as you.

Will I receive a letter prior to departure?

You will receive confirmation letter containing essential information and advice.

Will I need a laptop for the programme?

Should participants wish to bring a laptop or tablet, they are able to do so. It is not compulsory.

What is internet access like in Morocco?

The hotel in which you will be staying has free wireless internet access, as does the ISESCO site.

Arrival

When I arrive in Morocco, how do I get to the accommodation hotel?

On your arrival at Rabat–Salé Airport, you will be greeted by a member of the ACWAY team who will escort you to the hotel. More details will be included in the confirmation letter.

Accommodation

What is the accommodation like?

You will be staying in a hotel near the training venue (ISESCO). You will be sharing a twin room with another ACWAY participant who will be of the same gender.

How are rooms allocated?

Rooms will be allocated as you arrive in Morocco according to your arrival time.

Can I swap rooms so as to share with a friend?

We normally do not allow room swapping. This may be allowed by the organisers in rare circumstances.

Can I stay in a single room if I pay extra?

We cannot accommodate requests to have a single room. If this will be an issue, please contact us.

Can I arrange my own accommodation?

No. All ACWAY participants must stay in the hotel assigned to them.

Food and Health

I require Kosher or Halal food, is this available in Morocco?

Yes.

I am a vegetarian. Will I be able to find vegetarian food in Morocco?

Yes.

Can I buy western style food in Morocco?

Yes.

Do I have to pay for food while I'm there?

During the programme, all food will be provided by ACWAY. If you wish to eat outside of the programme schedule you will have to pay for your own food.

I have a food allergy?

Please let us know via email once you have been accepted on the programme.

What injections or medication do I need to take?

We advise you take medical advice from a doctor or pharmacist.

Other Frequently Asked Questions

What support will I have while in Morocco?

The programme is managed by the ACWAY team who will assign a Team Leader for a certain number of students. This Team Leader will be your primary point of contact for all your needs and queries.

How much free time will I have to explore Morocco while on the programme?

There will be very little time outside of the programme as the schedule is intensive. All participants will be required to attend ALL sessions of the course as well as the trips and visits.

Why didn't you reply to my email?

We apologise if this has happened to you. During busy periods, we try to respond to all emails as quick as we can. If it’s urgent, please resend the email.

Do I have to stay for the whole programme?

Yes. If you cannot commit to the entire programme, your place will be offered to another applicant on the reserve list.

Do I need to have travel insurance?

Getting travel insurance is your own responsibility however we do strongly advise that you have some form of insurance. If you need any advice on what cover to get, contact us.

What clothes should I take?

The weather in Rabat in September tends to vary. We suggest smart attire, loose fabrics and clothing that is sensitive to the culture. More advice will be included in the confirmation letter.

What is the time commitment for the ACWAY programme as a whole?

The initial training in Morocco is fours day and there is a one day conference.

Other international travel includes participating in at least a second international conference.

Participants are expected to complete at least two projects/activities within six months of visiting Morocco.

With the exception of the initial training and conference in Morocco, the rest of the activities can be done whenever best suits you. The programme is flexible and participants are able to take ownership of when they wish to complete proposed projects (within the overall time constraints).
